Volunteering with Museums & Galleries Edinburgh is a great way to gain new skills and experiences, learn about museum work, make new friends and provide a valuable contribution to our service.
Museums & Galleries Edinburgh offer a wide range of voluntary roles including visitor engagement, collections care and documentation, historical research, community outreach, schools and learning, gardening, digital and events roles.
Lauriston Castle volunteers
We are now looking for new volunteers to help with a variety of tasks and activities at Lauriston Castle for the 2024 season. Volunteer roles include giving guided tours, assisting with events and becoming a member of Edinburgh Living History.
Please click on the Volunteer Role Descriptions below for more information.
To apply, please fill in a Volunteer Application Form (available below) and send to MuseumsVolunteering@edinburgh.gov.uk by Tuesday 05 March.
We will hold a Volunteer information and induction day at Lauriston Castle for new volunteers on Wednesday 20 March 2024.
Please note that some of our volunteer roles attract a high number of applicants. When deciding between candidates with similar levels of interest, enthusiasm and experience, preference will be given to candidates who live, work or study in Edinburgh. As a local authority museum service, our first duty is to the people of Edinburgh and so we aim to ensure that they have the best access to our volunteering opportunities.
All available volunteering roles will be listed on this page and through our social media channels.
If you'd like to be the first to know when new volunteering roles become available, please join our mailing list by emailing MuseumsVolunteering@edinburgh.gov.uk.
Please note that we don’t accept speculative applications and we only recruit volunteers when a specific role is available.
