Sorley Maclean, the greatest Gaelic poet of the twentieth century, has a deep relationship with Edinburgh. He was a student in the city, and then a teacher, and it was in the city that he wrote some of his most important poetry. However, for Maclean it was ‘baile glas gun ghathadh grèine’ - a grey town with no rays of sunlight.
