On this International Women's Day we celebrate the ladies of Lauriston. Members of Edinburgh Living History would like to share some of their recent research into the lives of some of the women who have owned or lived in Lauriston Castle since the 17th Century.
Although much has been written about the male occupiers of the castle during this time, there is less information readily available about their female counterparts. We intend to address this imbalance, at least partially, in this presentation. From Jean Campbell Law, the mother of the economist John Law, to the Victorian “ladies” of the castle and finally to Margaret Reid, the last private owner of the castle, who died in 1926. Presented by Rebecca Hale.
