The exhibition E. A. Hornel: From Camera to Canvas (07/11/2020–14/03/2021 at the City Art Centre) will demonstrate how photography underpins almost all the work of Scottish artist Edward Atkinson Hornel. Ben Reiss, the Morton Photography Project Curator with the National Trust for Scotland, will explore how photography provided Hornel with access to people, places and networks, and helped him build a visual library from which he could refresh his memory and take inspiration. Ben will also show how viewing Hornel's paintings through his photographic collection adds a layer of complexity to his otherwise simple-seeming paintings.
