Edinburgh Deaf Festival 12-19 August 2022
Edinburgh Deaf Festival is an accessible celebration of deaf culture, language and heritage. The festival events will be performed in BSL, or will be BSL interpreted and captioned. This is a festival for everyone coordinated by Deaf Action.

Edinburgh Museums & Galleries are delighted to showcase eight digital BSL signed tours throughout the Festival. Every evening at 7pm a different BSL signed tour will stream live on our City Art Centre facebook page. These tours were produced by Magic Egg Productions, a company dedicated to making information accessible. 

Friday 12 August at 7pm - City Art Centre Collection Tour. Highlights of the City Art Centre permanent art collection.  Telling the story of Scottish Art, this digital tour focuses on some of our most significant artists and works.

 Saturday 13 August at 7pm - Museum of Edinburgh Highlights Tour.  A full digital BSL signed tour of the Museum of Edinburgh, focussing on key objects and the story of the building. The story of Edinburgh from your local history museum.

Sunday 14 August at 7pm - The People's Story Museum Highlights Tour.  A full digital BSL signed tour of the People's Story Museum, focussing on key objects and the story of the building. Telling the story of the working class people of Edinburgh.

Monday 15 August at 7pm - The Writers' Museum Highlights Tour.  A full digital BSL signed tour of the Writers'  Museum, focussing on key objects and also the story of the building. The story of 3 giants in Scottish Literature, writers Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns and Robert Louis Stevenson. 

Tuesday 16 August at 7pm. Lauriston Castle Highlights Tour.  A full digital BSL signed tour of Lauriston Castle. Be transported to the Edwardian era with a walk through our elegant rooms.  

Wednesday 17 August at 7pm. Museum of Childhood Highlights Tour. A full digital BSL signed tour of Museum of Childhood, focussing on key objects. The Museum of Childhood was the first museum in the world to be dedicated to the history of childhood and it attracts over 200,000 visitors a year.  Amongst the displays you will find toys, games, clothes, books and dolls, dating from the 1800s to the present day.

Friday 19 August at 7pm. A digital BSL signed tour of key works in our current City Art Centre exhibition 'Incoming: New Acquisitions at the City Art Centre'. This exhibition at the City Art Centre presents a selection of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculpture acquired within the last ten years.
