Will Maclean’s work is a key to understanding Highland art, history, and culture. Professor Macdonald will explore his work in that broader context, not least with respect to artists such as William McTaggart and issues such as land use.

Murdo Macdonald is the author of Scottish Art (Thames & Hudson, new edition 2021), Patrick Geddes’s Intellectual Origins (Edinburgh University Press, 2020) and Ruskin’s Triangle (Ma Bibliothèque, 2021). With Arthur Watson in 2010 he co-curated Window to the West: The Rediscovery of Highland Art, at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh. He is emeritus professor of history of Scottish art at the University of Dundee.
