You can see some of the beautiful garments and sample pieces produced by Maud Pentland and other former students of the College. They include delicately embroidered blouses and underwear, practice pieces for all manner of needlework and embroidery, as well as samples for hat making.  There are cookery books and note books used by students at the school, cookery equipment and even a special dish for baking snails!

The ‘Stitching Times’ exhibition was developed from a collaborative project between the Workers’ Educational Association and the Museum of Edinburgh which explored the work of the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science in the context of women’s education and the work of the Suffrage movement. Participants worked together to produce a beautiful embroidered tablecloth which forms the centrepiece of the exhibition. It was inspired by a collection of hand-made, embroidered undergarments, made by Maud Pentland during her time at the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science, and was sewn using stitches based on Maud’s own work.  The ‘Stitching Times’ tablecloth is a tribute to Maud’s work, and to the work of the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science and their many former pupils and teachers.
