Collections

mcs1.jpgCollections include objects not on display at the Museums of Edinburgh, Childhood and the People’s Story. Many are classified as Social History; these include tools and technology from past working lives in local industries like printing; familiar domestic objects from granny’s kitchen and parlour; shop signs and billboards which were part of everyday community life; as well as more decorative Scottish pottery and glass.

Some groups of objects relate to communities like Leith or Newhaven, who had quite specific local industries like fishing and boat-building, or to now-lost industries of processing clay for many different uses. All these collections of objects tell us about the past lives of our city.
