Other Monuments

Look around Edinburgh and you will see many statues and monuments. Most of them were paid for by public subscription and given to the City so most are in the care of the City of Edinburgh Council.

Edinburgh is full of statues, monuments and sculpture, placed in the City to mark important events and special people. The money for most of these works was raised  by public subscription. They are in the care of the City of Edinburgh Council because they were given to the City.

The tripod on top of the Burns Monument is based on a prize given in 334 B.C., to the best performer at the Theatre of Dionysus, by the ‘choregos’ Lysicrates,who sponsored the show.
