Leslie Hunter: A Life in Colour

Leslie Hunter: A Life in Colour

George 'Leslie' Hunter (1877 - 1931) was one of a group of four artists now known collectively as The Scottish Colourists. Together, they were among the most influential Scottish artists of the 20th century.

Although they never worked as a group and their art developed at different rates, there were times when the Colourist artists painted together in twos and threes in France or Iona. What they had in common was a love for bold colour in their painting. Their work revitalised Scottish art and has influenced succeeding generations of Scottish artists to this day.

This major exhibition comprises over eighty works of varying sizes by Hunter, and is drawn from public and private collections throughout the UK. As well as tracing the development of his work it gives full rein to its wonderful variety.

'Everyone must choose his own way, and mine will be the way of colour.' (Leslie Hunter, c 1916)
