Festival of Museums Weekend supports and is inspired by the Edinburgh Alphabet exhibition.

The Edinburgh Street Ceilidh
The Jacobites are a professional ceilidh band based in Edinburgh and have performed at weddings and events across Scotland, the UK and Europe. They are also the founders of The Edinburgh Street Ceilidh, a free street event held usually on the Royal Mile.  The Jacobites will perform the Edinburgh Street Ceilidh for the first time in the City Art Centre and will be teaching and calling all the well-known ceilidh dances to members of the public for free. So come along and ceilidh dance to our traditional music; a fun and uplifting start to exhibition.

1.30pm - 4 pm
Large Scale Animation
In this exciting, fast-paced family animation session we will all work together to create a large-scale 2D charcoal-drawn animation inspired by the magnificent 'Edinburgh Alphabet' exhibition.

2pm - 3pm
Dressed in the A-Z:  Fashion Show
Fashion show from Edinburgh College Fashion and Textile students.  The process of exploring, experimenting, applying and realising art and design ideas has been integral to the work produced for their final major project garments.  With such a diverse, rich and varied range of objects to explore, the city's heritage is a creative's treasure trove.

1pm - 4pm
Creel o’ Stories
Storyteller Jan Bee Brown will be bringing her Creel o’ Stories to the galleries. Specialising in stories about the places where we live and love, linking history, museum objects and local tales. The willow creel carries feisty fables of Edinburgh’s fishwives and Jan will be asking the public to fish for stories.  For each of the individual letters that make up EDINBURGH there will be an object, a story or a song attached.

3.15pm - 4.15pm
Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus
Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus will be singing songs from their repertoire of popular music from the last 100 years, including a couple of sneak previews of new songs.
