The Anatolian-born Zaharoff probably attained greatest notoriety as an international arms salesman, but he was also linguist, arsonist, pimp, friend of royalty, and even honora...

It has been suggested he not only helped to instigate World War I, but also assisted in bringing about its end, just one of a multitude of claims made about a life in which fact and fiction mingle in an almost impenetrable fog.

Robin Barnes is a writer and lecturer on transport history with an interest in Modern European History.  He is a published writer and artist on the subject of transport history.  Current research includes the history of luxury train travel in Europe.
